The Annual General Meeting (AGM)

You can hear about what has been happening in Dorset branch since the 2012 AGM. It's also an excellent opportunity to help shape the direction of the branch for the coming year. There will be elections for the branch committee and an opportunity for questions and discussion. Note as with the rest of the evening it is open to both BCS members and non-members.

In our usual format, the evening will include a buffet and will end with a presentation from Paul Brown on Computer Art.

Exploring the Future of Mobile Web

Synopsis

There are major changes in the way websites can be built, the breadth of mobile devices available and of course how we as users expect to interact with our devices.

This talk explores these changes. Firstly by looking at User Interface choices in mobile web development and how to optimise this experience. Secondly discussing the major changes in web technology and how these impact on what is, and will be achievable.

BCS Dorset is proud to be sponsoring BarCamp Bournemouth once again. BarCamp Bournemouth 5 is a free self-organising unconference for anyone interested in the digital and online world. It will take place on the weekend of 9th - 10th March and the free tickets are going quickly so get them while you still can.

Bar-What?

BarCamps (often referred to as an unconference) are inclusive, participatory based, user generated events.There are no set talks or keynotes, any attendee can contribute to the barcamp by giving a talk on the day, with no prior notice, on any topic that they wish. This means that barcamps have a diverse and exciting range of talks at every event, with something for everyone and if there isn't a talk that you wish to attend (which is unlikely) - you can put one on yourself, someone else is always interested!.

Synopsis

C4L is a UK leading data centre and connectivity solutions provider, offering a full range of services, including backup and storage, disaster recovery, leased lines, wireless connectivity, virtualisation and telecoms.

They own a high capacity fibre network and have a presence in over 40 data centres across the UK and Europe.

Format

The visit includes a talk followed by a tour of the data centre. The visit should last about 90 minutes and has a capacity of 12 visitors; selected in booking order.
